Scratch or Hack Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 16, 2026
Scratch or Hack ("the app", "we") is a golf-swing rating app: you record or upload a short
swing video, and other users guess the swinger's handicap. This policy describes what
information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information. You sign in with Google or Apple. We receive
and store your email address and, if your provider shares it, your name. These are
stored in Amazon Cognito, our authentication service, along with a random account
identifier. We never see or store your Google or Apple password.
- Swing videos. Videos you record or upload (including their audio)
are stored so they can be shown to other users in the rating feed. The camera,
microphone, and photo library are used only when you choose to record or upload a
video; nothing is captured in the background.
- Ratings and activity. Your stated handicap for each swing, the
handicap guesses you submit on other users' swings, and any videos you report or
users you block.
- Service logs. Standard technical logs generated by our cloud
infrastructure (such as request timestamps and IP addresses) used for security and
to keep the service running.
What we do NOT collect
The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking SDKs. We do
not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing, and we do
not use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How your information is shared
- With other users: your swing videos and their stated handicaps
appear in the rating feed. They are shown without your name or email —
other users cannot see who posted a video.
- With service providers: data is stored and processed on Amazon Web
Services (AWS) in the United States. Sign-in is handled by Amazon Cognito with
Google and Apple as identity providers.
- For legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law.
Moderation
Users can report videos and block other users. Reported videos are reviewed and may be
removed; reports include the reporting account, the reported video, and the reason given.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time
in the app (My Swings → settings gear → Delete account). Deletion removes your sign-in
record, your videos, your ratings, and your activity data from our systems. Residual
copies in encrypted backups expire automatically.
Security
Videos and data are stored encrypted at rest, transferred only over TLS, and access to
video files is granted through short-lived signed URLs.
Children
Scratch or Hack is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account,
contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
